October 2015 – PhD degree from the University of Vienna with a thesis on “Subtitling as a Translatorial Action – Subtitling in the Context of the Austrian Film Industry”
I like to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the industry and academia and have spoken and taken part in numerous international and national conferences and workshops on translation and subtitling, quality management in translation/subtitling, project management for translators/subtitlers, audiovisual translation, interlingual subtitling and subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, and many other topics.
Professional profile:
I have been a freelance translator since 1998 and was officially licensed by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber in 2001. In 2006 I trained as a subtitler at Titelbild Subtitling and Translation in Berlin and began as a freelance subtitler after completing a three-month internship at the company.
I have also worked as a research assistant and tutor at the Center for Translation Studies, University of Vienna, where I planned and organised the “Interlingual Subtitling” course from 2005 to 2015.
My frequent trips to England, the USA, Spain and other counties have helped me develop my language skills and gain a wealth of cultural knowledge. In the academic year of 1998/99 I also spent an Erasmus year at Dublin City University.

Translation
I specialise in a range of fields, such as film, arts & culture, social issues, and PR & marketing, and translate a variety of text types, including film scripts, treatments, synopses, dialogue lists, voice-over scripts, press kits, exhibition texts and catalogues.
My rates for translation are based on the number of standard lines (one standard line is 55 characters including spaces). My rates for long texts are based on the number of standard pages (30 lines, each with 55 characters including spaces). Proofreading and editing are charged by the hour.
Subtitling
I offer interlingual subtitling and subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
Subtitle files can be delivered in all of the standard formats.
The rates for subtitling are calculated per minute of the original film material.
Editing already existing subtitles is charged by the hour.

Technical tools
Alongside the standard Microsoft Office word processing programmes, I also use Final Draft to translate and edit film scripts.
When subtitling, I use the professional subtitling software EZTitles, which allows me to import and export subtitling files in all of the standard formats.
Quality
To ensure I always produce premium quality translations and subtitles, all work is proofread and, if necessary, edited by another qualified and experienced colleague (a native speaker of the respective language).
I pay careful attention to your timeframe and specific requirements, always meeting the agreed deadlines and delivering in all of the necessary formats.
As well as advising you on what you need for your particular project, I guarantee absolute confidentiality. All of the materials you provide, be it original or reference material (text documents, images, video and audio files etc.), are handled with the utmost discretion.
I work with a network of qualified, experienced and reliable subtitlers, translators and editors/proofreaders, meaning that I can take on large-scale projects into and out of a range of languages, such as French, Spanish and Italian.
